State Grid Zhoushan Power Supply Company Releases Report on Grid- Grid Operation of Zhoushan Tidal Current Energy
On October 22, the First Marine Tidal Current Energy Development Conference was held in Daishan, Zhejiang. At the conference, State Grid Zhoushan Power Supply Company authoritatively released the Report on Grid-Connected Operation of Zhoushan Tidal Current Energy. The report systematically sorts out the practical achievements of tidal current energy power generation and grid-connected operation in Zhoushan, demonstrates major breakthroughs in the grid-connected operation mode of tidal current energy power generation, and provides an important reference for promoting the large-scale development and utilization of marine energy.
Centered on the Zhoushan LHD tidal current energy power generation project as a core case, the report details the project’s outstanding performance of over 9 years of continuous grid-connected operation and a cumulative on-grid electricity volume exceeding 8.2786 million kilowatt-hours. This fully verifies the technical maturity and operational reliability of tidal current energy as a stable and reliable clean energy source. As the world’s largest single-unit capacity tidal current energy generator set, the LHD project has not only achieved a leap from technical demonstration to commercial operation but also become a significant milestone in China’s marine energy development.

The report emphasizes that as a power grid enterprise, the company strives to integrate various new energy sources and safely, efficiently, and economically absorb and serve new energy. Adhering to a user-oriented approach, the company has built an efficient and collaborative management and support system. Through multi-dimensional measures such as organizational leadership, service guarantees, and operation and maintenance support, it has made every effort to improve grid-connection efficiency, ensure grid stability, and promote the absorption of tidal current energy. In collaboration with research institutions, it has formulated the Specifications for Tidal Current Velocity Detection, promoted the application of full-power converter technology, enhanced grid adaptability, and explored an island power grid model of “local power generation and nearby consumption”. This model effectively reduces transmission losses, improves energy utilization efficiency, and provides replicable and promotable power grid solutions for the development of clean energy in China’s coastal and island areas.

With the issuance of China’s Guiding Opinions on Promoting the Large-Scale Utilization of Marine Energy and the planning and construction of Zhoushan’s 50-megawatt tidal current energy power station, tidal current energy is transforming from a “supplementary energy source” to a “supporting energy source”. In the future, through multi-energy complementary models such as “tidal current energy + offshore wind power + energy storage”, tidal current energy will play a more important role in offshore power supply and island energy security.
The release of this report not only demonstrates the company’s leading position in the field of marine energy access and absorption but also provides a replicable and promotable “Chinese solution” for the global energy transition. The company is willing to work with all parties to promote technological innovation, standard-setting, and project cooperation in tidal current energy, contribute to building a new power system with new energy as the main body, and inject strong “blue momentum” into global green and low-carbon development.
