“Power” Illuminates the Warm Winter: A 2,700-Kilometer Appointment of “Velvet” Affection with Baiyu
On October 21st, a new round of cold air hit Baiyu County, Ganzi Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Sichuan Province. In the dormitory of Marong Township Central Primary School, children were sleeping soundly under fluffy and soft winter quilts. “This batch of quilts couldn’t have come at a better time—now the kids don’t have to huddle together in one quilt anymore,” said Zheng Xi, a dorm supervisor. “Thank you to the ‘Sleep Well’ program for letting the children get a good night’s sleep.”
“Sleep Well” is a distinctive volunteer service program for league members launched by State Grid Hangzhou Power Supply Company, dedicated to creating warm and comfortable lunch break spaces for students at school. Since its launch in 2022, league member volunteers have delivered supplies such as nap mats and desk lamps to 11 primary schools in Anhui, Zhejiang and other regions, benefiting 3,684 students.

As a counterpart assistance area for east-west cooperation in Lin’an District, Hangzhou, Baiyu County has an average altitude of 3,500 meters, with the minimum winter temperature dropping to -20℃. Most local primary schools adopt a boarding system, and some students can only go home once a semester. Prior to this, the “Sleep Well” program had already provided sleep-related supplies to 4 local primary schools, benefiting 914 students.

“New clothes! And new beds too!” When volunteers opened the supply boxes, revealing thick winter clothing and neat new dorm beds, Zhuoma, a fifth-grader, was the first to step forward, her eyes shining as brightly as the stars in the mountains. Considering the severe cold of minus ten-odd degrees Celsius in the plateau’s autumn and winter, volunteers specially selected thickened winter clothes with fleece lining—every detail was filled with thoughtfulness. Faced with the old wooden beds in the student dormitories, the donated new beds were not only sturdy and stable but also matched with comfortable and warm bedding. Rolling up their sleeves, volunteers assembled the bed frames and spread out the mattresses. In no time, the originally simple dormitories took on a “new look”. The children jumped around the new beds, shouting “Sleep Well, Grow Well” in both Chinese and Tibetan.

In the classroom, “I can ‘generate electricity’ too!” Zhaxi excitedly held up his work and showed it off to his friends. Volunteers were using colorful electric building blocks to teach the children how to assemble “miniature power stations”. On the playground, a timid child’s soft voice asked, “Uncle, can you play basketball?” Immediately, a joyful atmosphere filled the air. At that moment, the volunteers paid no attention to altitude sickness and started a game similar to “Eagle Catches Chickens” with the children. Basketballs were passed between little hands that were red from the cold, and cheers and shouts mingled with the wind, echoing over the plateau playground for a long time.

Seventy small wishes fulfilled, 80 sets of bedding, 120 sets of clothing, and one “Power Love Classroom” heating system—continuous love flowed from the famous city of Wuyue (the ancient name for regions including Hangzhou) to the “golden sand forest sea” (a vivid description of Baiyu’s landscape). “From Hangzhou to Baiyu, we have crossed mountains and seas, but what remains unchanged is the original aspiration of Party members to serve the people,” Qiu Yang, a volunteer representative from State Grid Hangzhou Power Supply Company, said at the donation and award ceremony.
This Party member volunteer service, spanning thousands of kilometers, not only delivered supplies and heating systems worth 240,000 yuan but also built a “red protective wall” for the children’s peaceful sleep time with original aspiration and professionalism. In recent years, State Grid Hangzhou Power Supply Company has continuously deepened the “Party Building + Volunteer Service” model. From popularizing electricity safety to donating public welfare supplies, from supporting students in Tibetan areas to boosting rural revitalization, it has fulfilled its social responsibility through practical actions. Next, the company will continue to deepen east-west cooperation, expand the connotation of the “Sleep Well” program, and let warmth and light cross mountains and seas, shining brightly on the snow-covered plateau.
