Henan Shangqiu: Reliable Power Supply Safeguards Sorghum Drying, Reducing Losses and Securing the Harvest
In Zhecheng County, Henan Province, the autumn sorghum harvest is in full swing, and farmers are hard at work across the golden fields.
However, the freshly harvested sorghum has a high moisture content, and with continuous rainy weather in recent days, timely drying has become essential to prevent mildew. To minimize weather-related losses, protect farmers’ income, and ensure food security, the State Grid Shangqiu Power Supply Company responded swiftly. The company mobilized staff to coordinate with township drying centers and planting cooperatives, initiating a special power supply support effort for drying operations.
Technicians conducted thorough inspections of power lines, transformers, and electrical equipment used for drying, promptly eliminating potential safety hazards. Meanwhile, a “green channel” was opened for agricultural cooperatives and other production entities, offering 24-hour electricity support and emergency services to guarantee the stable operation of drying equipment.

With reliable electricity as support, each drying site is running at full capacity, quickly transforming moist sorghum into dry, plump grains. This reduces the risk of spoilage, eases farmers’ concerns, and ensures a smooth transition “from harvest in hand to harvest in storage”. The effort provides strong support for stable yields, higher incomes, and secure grain reserves.(By Zhou Zhikun)
