Zhejiang: Comprehensive Autumn Grid Maintenance Launches to Ensure Reliable Winter Power Supply

HANGZHOU – The annual autumn grid maintenance work has recently been launched by State Grid Hangzhou Power Supply Company in the mountainous areas of West Zhejiang. This systematic project aims to conduct comprehensive inspections and maintenance of power facilities within its jurisdiction, ensuring the grid can safely and stably meet the upcoming winter peak electricity demand.

Autumn maintenance is a crucial preventive measure in grid operations. During the summer, persistent high temperatures and the tourist season kept the electricity load consistently high, subjecting power equipment to severe tests. The drop in temperature and electricity load during autumn provides an ideal window for thorough diagnostics and maintenance. “The core of autumn maintenance is proactive prevention,” said Pang Jiahui, a team member of the Primary Substation Maintenance Team. “We must thoroughly investigate and eliminate potential equipment hazards before the winter load arrives.”

At the 110-kilovolt Jieshou Substation, the maintenance work proceeded efficiently and in an orderly manner. Technicians conducted systematic checks on key equipment: using specialized instruments to monitor transformer operating conditions, testing the operational reliability of circuit breakers under fault conditions, and performing precise calibrations on the relay protection system, often termed the grid’s “brain.” It was reported that during the two-day intensive operation, the station executed a total of 5 work permits and 79 operation tickets, significantly enhancing the equipment’s health level.

To minimize the impact on residential and commercial power usage, the power supply company implemented meticulous arrangements. “Generally, the autumn maintenance lasts about three months. Work is scheduled to avoid peak electricity consumption hours, and live-line working is used when circumstances permit to ensure a safe and reliable power supply,” Pang Jiahui explained.

As Qiandao Lake is a world-renowned tourist destination, a reliable power supply is vital for its economic development and residents’ livelihoods. The autumn maintenance deployed by State Grid Hangzhou Power Supply Company in the West Zhejiang mountain area is a key annual task to ensure regional energy security and support the stable operation of local society.
