Hangzhou, Zhejiang: Capacity Expansion and Renovation of Old Main Transformers Inject Strong Electrical Power into Rural Revitalization

On September 22, State Grid Hangzhou Power Supply Company successfully completed the capacity expansion and renovation of the No. 1 main transformer at the 35kV Zhongshan Substation. This project has effectively improved the power supply level in rural areas and comprehensively honed the core maintenance capabilities of staff through independent construction.

The 35kV Zhongshan Substation is responsible for power supply to multiple rural areas, including Eshan Ethnic Township – known as “China’s First She Ethnic Township”. In recent years, with the continuous rise of local characteristic industries such as cultural tourism and agricultural products, the load rate of the main transformers at the 35kV Zhongshan Substation has also increased. Previously, the two main transformers at the 35kV Zhongshan Substation had been in operation for 18 years, with potential equipment hazards such as oil leakage and voltage regulation failure. To ensure reliable rural power supply and boost the vigorous development of rural characteristic industries, the company planned to expand the capacity of the two main transformers at the substation to 32,000 kVA. After the capacity expansion and upgrade, the power supply capacity will increase by nearly 60%.

“The manufacturing and processing of equipment such as wires and bus bridges involves processes like cutting, grinding, and drilling. In the past, these were often carried out on-site, generating significant construction noise. In this project, we innovatively adopted the ‘factory-style maintenance’ construction model, arranging these steps in the warehouse of the maintenance workshop. This not only improves on-site work efficiency but also minimizes the impact on the daily lives of nearby residents,” said Master Xu, a staff member of the company.

During the construction period, the staff performed their respective duties and cooperated with great rapport, ensuring the smooth positioning of the 30-ton transformer and the orderly completion of a series of tasks including installation, oil filling, testing, and commissioning. In this project, a “maintenance + operation and maintenance” dual equipment owner system was also implemented. The equipment owners participated in the whole-process management and control, including on-site survey, plan formulation, construction preparation, simulation and deduction, on-site implementation, and completion acceptance, to ensure the new main transformer is put into operation with zero defects and zero hidden dangers.

In the next phase, the company will carry out capacity expansion and renovation of the No. 2 main transformer at the 35kV Zhongshan Substation. Centering on the content of the “Electricity Assists the She People, Joint Prosperity in She Townships” agreement and focusing on the “Electricity Lights Up Beautiful and Harmonious Villages” initiative, it will take multiple measures to promote rural revitalization with high quality and realize the common prosperity of ethnic groups.
