Zhejiang Launches 5,000 kWh Energy Storage Plant: Cost Cuts, Efficiency to Drive Dual Carbon Goals
On August 4, the 5,000 kWh energy storage power station of Zhejiang Kangsheng Heat Exchanger Co., Ltd. was connected to the 10 kV power grid and successfully commissioned. Adopting lithium iron phosphate battery technology, the project employs a “storing electricity during off-peak hours and releasing energy during peak hours” model, enabling the enterprise to save over 1.4 million yuan in electricity fees annually. It has thus provided a practical sample for the transformation of energy structure and the materialization of the “dual carbon” goals.
As an active practitioner responding to the national energy strategy of “promoting large-scale development of energy storage”, State Grid Hangzhou Power Supply Company has proactively engaged with enterprise needs. From formulating access schemes and optimizing grid-connection procedures in the initial phase to monitoring the safe operation of the project in the later stage, the company has accurately aligned with the enterprise’s electricity demand and smoothed the “green channel”. This ensures the safe and efficient linkage between the energy storage system and the 10 kV power grid, accelerating the construction of the “zero-carbon park” in the mountainous areas of western Zhejiang.
“Our enterprise has high electricity consumption during daytime production, which coincides with peak electricity prices. This equipment stores electricity at night and discharges it during the day, saving about 4,000 yuan in electricity fees daily—adding up to over 1.4 million yuan a year,” noted Hua Shao, a power engineer at Zhejiang Kangsheng Co., Ltd. It is estimated that after commissioning, the project will generate a profit from price differences equivalent to 2.2 million kWh of electricity for the enterprise annually. “Not only has production cost been reduced, but a solid step has also been taken in green development.”
Compared with traditional energy storage systems, this project demonstrates significant advantages. “Similar large-capacity projects require 300-400 square meters of space and take more than two months to construct,” explained Youyi Wang, project manager of Chongqing Chenfeng Energy Storage Technology Co., Ltd. “However, through modular design, the footprint has been reduced to 240 square meters, with a construction period of approximately one and a half months, a total capacity of 5 MWh, and a single charge-discharge capacity of 5,000 kWh.” This innovative model has provided a replicable “lightweight” solution for industrial users to promote energy storage applications.
To ensure the safe and stable operation of the project, a comprehensive full-process service system has been established by State Grid Hangzhou Power Supply Company. According to Jian Meng, the company’s customer manager, electrical inspections are conducted quarterly for energy storage projects, and special inspections of fire protection and energy storage devices are carried out monthly. These inspections include regular temperature measurement of energy storage battery packs, implementation of partial discharge tests, as well as ultrasonic tests and partial discharge tests on energy storage grid-connection cabinets, isolation cabinets, and metering cabinets.
Moving forward, State Grid Hangzhou Power Supply Company will continue to deepen the “power supply + energy efficiency service” model, optimize the electricity business environment, and leverage technological empowerment to drive the green transformation of industries. This will provide solid power support for the high-quality economic and social development in the mountainous areas of western Zhejiang and the achievement of energy conservation and emission reduction goals.
