Zhejiang: “Smart Sky Eye”System Launched, Providing Robust Support for Summer Peak Power Demand
On July 16, State Grid Hangzhou Power Supply Company vigorously promoted the intelligent inspection enhancement work for substations. By installing high-definition cameras, building intelligent analysis platforms, and deepening backend data applications, it has injected “Smart Power Initiative” into power supply guarantee during the summer peak load period.
The operational status of substations is directly related to the security and stability of the main power grid.Traditional manual inspections have many drawbacks during extreme heat: maintenance personnel shuttling through equipment areas under scorching sun face extremely high labor intensity, with pain points including long inspection intervals, difficulty capturing details, and delayed data analysis - making it hard to meet the urgent need for real-time equipment status monitoring during peak summer periods. Therefore, State Grid Hangzhou Power Supply Company focused its efforts precisely, making intelligent inspection enhancement a key measure for ensuring power supply during peak summer. As of now, the company has completed intelligent inspection enhancement work at three substations including the 220kV Langchuan Substation in remote mountainous areas of western Zhejiang.
At the 220kV Langchuan Substation, 78 high-definition cameras are densely distributed throughout the equipment area like “clairvoyant eyes”, achieving real-time monitoring of substation equipment. These “sky eyes” feature high resolution and strong environmental adaptability, capable of clearly capturing subtle changes in equipment status (such as oil levels, air pressure, leaks, floating objects, etc.), conducting a centralized, automated comprehensive analysis inspection every three days through the intelligent inspection system.
Relying on the backend intelligent inspection system that integrates cutting-edge technologies like AI image recognition and big data analysis, it can process massive images collected by the “sky eyes” with second-level analysis, automatically compare equipment status, and accurately capture potential hazards such as subtle changes in equipment appearance defects and abnormal meter readings. This significantly shortens the response time from anomaly detection to initiation of handling, ensuring timely and effective treatment of hazards in their early stages, greatly enhancing equipment status awareness and hazard warning capabilities.
The online monitoring of intelligent inspection effectively compensates for the gaps in manual inspections, showing particularly significant advantages during nighttime and extreme weather conditions.
It not only significantly reduces the labor intensity and outdoor exposure risks for maintenance personnel during extreme heat, but also liberates human resources from repetitive inspections to focus on higher-value work such as equipment maintenance, status analysis, and emergency preparedness, achieving dual improvements in overall operational efficiency and equipment reliability.
From “manual inspection” to “intelligent monitoring”, from “reactive emergency repair” to “proactive prevention”, intelligent inspection enhancement represents not just a technological upgrade, but also an innovation in operational concepts.Next, State Grid Hangzhou Power Supply Company will continue to deepen the application of intelligent technologies, consistently improve the intelligent operation level and intrinsic safety capability of the power grid during summer peak periods, providing strong and reliable power support for high-quality economic and social development.(By Yu Wangying)
