Drone Transportation Facilitates the Green Construction of Overhead Lines in Mountainous Areas
“All set, take off!” Recently, at the construction site of the 110 kV line output project of the Hangzhou Hecun Agricultural - Photovoltaic Complementary Power Generation Project, a multi - rotor heavy - lift drone successfully took off, carrying engineering materials weighing nearly 150 catties to the designated tower position 800 meters away and completing the precise landing, unhooking and placement of the materials. This move marks that the engineering mechanized equipment has entered the stage of large - scale application.
It is reported that the 110 kV line project of the Hecun Photovoltaic Power Station has newly built an overhead line of 14.45 kilometers, crossing the Fenshui River and multiple 35 kV lines, and passing through the Nanbao Provincial Wetland Park Nature Reserve in Hangzhou, Zhejiang, and finally connecting to the 110 kV Fenshui Substation.

The terrain and landforms that the project line passes through are mainly high mountains and hills, with undulating terrain and a large difference in altitude. The complex environment brings great difficulties to the transportation of construction materials for the transmission line. “The traditional material transportation generally uses mules, horses and simple cableways for the transportation of materials for mountain line construction. There are pain points such as low operation efficiency, serious environmental damage, difficult ecological restoration, many safety risks, and high construction costs. However, the drone transportation method has many advantages such as high efficiency, low safety risks, a wide operation range, and basically no damage to the ecology. The application demand in power grid construction and construction is increasing day by day.” The staff of the State Grid Hangzhou Power Supply Company said.
The heavy - lift drone applied this time only took 12 minutes to complete the whole process of hoisting and transporting the project materials, saving 4 hours compared with manual handling. The transportation process was stable and reliable. When hoisting materials, the equipped AR safety assistance function could display the position of obstacles in real - time, reducing the collision accident rate by 90% in complex environments.
