State Grid Taizhou Powers Post-Exam Green Travel for Students with Mobile Charging Support

June 19, Taizhou – As China’s secondary school and college entrance examinations concluded, a wave of student travel emerged nationwide. At the bustling Yangtze River Bridge service area in Taizhou, Jiangsu Province, endless streams of vehicles filled the new energy vehicle (NEV) charging zone. At this critical moment, mobile charging vehicles dispatched by State Grid Taizhou Power Supply Company arrived promptly. Technicians swiftly connected charging guns to vehicles while digital displays prominently flashed “100% Green Electricity.”

NEV owner Wang Xiaodong held up his green electricity traceability certificate on his phone, remarking in surprise: “After my child’s college entrance exam, we are planning a family road trip to relax. I never expected we could also contribute to environmental protection.”

Lu Guiming, head of State Grid’s Bawei Power Supply Office, introduced that all electricity for charging piles and mobile units at the bridge service area originates from solar and wind energy sources within Jiangsu. “During peak post-exam travel periods, green electricity supply will exceed 12,000 kWh,” he stated. “We are committed to advancing low-carbon transformation in transportation, enabling students and parents to practice green values while enjoying convenient travel.”

To ensure stable green power supply, State Grid Taizhou has taken proactive measures. Addressing weather-induced fluctuations in renewable energy output, the company accelerated deployment of smart microgrids in service areas. A “solar-storage-charging-swap” smart microgrid system built with State Grid Taizhou’s involvement now operates efficiently within the service area. This system dynamically optimizes solar generation and energy storage allocation using real-time weather data and big-data traffic predictions, robustly supporting power demands for facility operations, charging piles, and battery swap stations.

For charging efficiency enhancement, State Grid Taizhou collaborated with stakeholders to implement differentiated charging guidance strategies. At high-traffic stations, NEV owners receive instant coupons when limiting charging to 70% capacity. At less congested service areas, time-based charging discounts apply. This strategy effectively shifts peak demand and elevates overall charging efficiency. “This approach alleviates pressure at busy stations while ensuring smoother travel for students and parents,” a company representative emphasized.
