Nanyang, Henan: Scaling Up Moxa Industry with Reliable Power Supply for Increased Income

“Power supply departments provide us with full-service support for planning, construction, and daily production, ensuring a sufficient power supply. Now, many of our moxa products have obtained national patent certificates, and demand for them far exceeds supply,” said the person in charge of Aimingyuan Agricultural Technology Co., Ltd., a moxa product manufacturer in Jiangliuwa Village, Zaoyuan Town, Zhenping County, Nanyang City, Henan Province, on June 10. Inside the company’s moxa column production workshop, several workers were busy placing moxa leaves onto conveyor belts. After being washed, dried, decontaminated, crushed, refined, rolled into sticks, and cut, the moxa leaves were formed into moxa columns, which were then packaged and boxed.

Aimingyuan Agricultural Technology Co., Ltd. is a rural enterprise engaged in the cultivation, processing, and sales of moxa. It operates over 3,600 acres of high-quality moxa planting bases and is currently one of the largest and most advanced private enterprises in Nanyang, with a diverse range of moxa varieties. The company has built two 4,000-square-meter moxa processing workshops to conduct deep processing of the cultivated moxa, including drying, crushing, sterilization, moxa stick rolling, and packaging. This requires the installation of drying furnaces, crushers, rolling machines, and automatic packaging machines, all of which demand high power reliability. There are more than ten such moxa processing enterprises in Zaoyuan Town.

State Grid Zhenping County Power Supply Company has closely followed the power needs of the moxa industry’s development. It has constructed the second phase of the 35 kV Zaoyuan Substation project, adding a 6,000 kVA main transformer and installing a 35 kV transmission line. Multiple capacity expansions have been carried out, upgrading the Zaoyuan Substation to a dual-power supply. At the same time, State Grid Zhenping County Power Supply Company has included the power needs of the local moxa industry in the construction of rural electrification. It has built 6.3 kilometers of 10 kV lines, 8.5 kilometers of 0.4 kV lines, and installed 11 new transformers, increasing the capacity by 12,000 kVA. The company has also selected professionals from business expansion, marketing services, and distribution maintenance to form a dedicated moxa industry power service team. This team actively visits enterprises to understand their power needs, establishes a “one enterprise, one account” system, and formulates personalized and differentiated power solutions for enterprises, clearly defining the implementation timeline and completion standards to enhance service precision.

“Stable and reliable power supply ensures that the moxa products processed by electronic equipment are diverse in variety and superior in quality, making them highly popular among consumers,” said Zhang Shutao, the general manager of Shuntao Moxa Products Co., Ltd. in Donghuang Village, Zaoyuan Town, as workers rushed to produce summer moxa products such as mosquito repellent incense and fly repellent incense, creating a bustling scene in the factory.

Currently, Zaoyuan Town in Zhenping County has more than ten moxa processing enterprises, with dozens of warehouses, production workshops, and exhibition halls. It has formed a complete moxa industry chain that integrates cultivation, product processing, new product development, and online and offline sales. The products include over 300 varieties across 70 categories, such as moxa floss, moxa incense, and moxa moxibustion. Centered on Zaoyuan Town, the moxa industry has spread to eight surrounding towns, including Luyi Town, Anyingying Town, and Gaoqiu Town, driving rural revitalization through the moxa industry.(By Pei Xiaoyang)
