Henan Nanyang: Strengthening Safety Management to Advance Fire Prevention and Root-Cause Improvement

“Hold the fire extinguisher by its handle, remove the lead seal, pull out the safety pin, stand upwind, and aim the nozzle at the base of the fire…” On the morning of May 26, in the courtyard of the State Grid Tongbai County Power Supply Company office building in Nanyang, Henan, the company’s volunteer firefighting team demonstrated the proper use of fire extinguishers to employees.

Since May, the company has actively responded to the province’s 10th Fire Safety Awareness and Education Month, centering on the theme “Fire Safety for All, Life First—Everyone is a Participant in Fire Prevention”, by carrying out a series of activities to comprehensively enhance the company’s intrinsic fire safety standards.

Combining Learning and Practice to Test Emergency Response Capabilities. In line with the training and awareness objectives of the 2025 Provincial Fire Safety Education Month, the company organized a comprehensive drill covering evacuation and fire suppression in the office building. Employees collectively watched warning films such as “Analysis and Lessons from Major Fire Incidents in Henan Province”, followed by a case-based evaluation of the drill. Volunteer firefighting experts provided on-site training, emphasizing fire prevention measures for critical areas such as substations and transmission/distribution lines, effectively strengthening employees’ emergency response and evacuation skills.

Comprehensive Inspections to Fortify Safety Defenses. The company has deepened risk hazard identification and rectification, establishing a green channel to accelerate the dynamic elimination of existing risks. A thorough inspection was conducted in key areas, including electrical equipment, fire exits, storage of flammable and explosive materials, and electric vehicle charging. Dedicated maintenance teams were formed to carry out targeted remediation based on risk categories, implementing preemptive risk control measures. Special inspections were also conducted on underground power distribution equipment, low-lying electrical facilities, riverside transmission lines, flood prevention supplies, and communication equipment, ensuring simultaneous attention to fire and flood prevention while continuously improving the operational stability of grid equipment.

Next, the company will focus on the core tasks of root-cause improvement, integrating the campaign’s measures with key safety initiatives. It will deepen the influence of safety culture, rigorously implement measures, and ensure the stable and secure operation of the power grid, providing reliable electricity support for Tongbai’s high-quality economic development.
