State Grid Taizhou Power Supply Company: "Dian Nuan Liu" Brand Ignites Sci-Tech Education via Century-Old Meter Heritage

On the occasion of International Museum Day, the “China in an Electric Meter” Museum initiated by State Grid Taizhou Power Supply Company witnessed surging visitor numbers. On May 18, students from Jiangyan Experimental Primary School immersed themselves in brand-themed activities, decoding China’s century-long power industry evolution through compact metering devices.

As China’s first electricity meter-themed museum meticulously developed over two years, this 300-square-meter exhibition space now serves as a flagship platform for State Grid Jiangsu Electric Power Company’s “Dian Nuan Liu” initiative. The museum systematically displays over 200 metering artifacts dating back to 1905 (31st Year of Guangxu Emperor’s reign), presenting early electrical measurement devices from a dozen countries including Britain, America and Japan, while chronologically charting China’s energy progression from imported oil lamps to smart chip-enabled modern systems.

Innovatively designed with three experiential zones - “Meters Narrating History”, “Contained Universe”, and “Technical Elegance” - the museum employs 200 physical meters, 30 simulated modules and 80 multimedia panels to visualize metrological evolution. Five industrial-grade touchscreens, LED transparent displays and 360-degree holographic imaging systems meticulously trace the evolution of metrological technologies. A fog-screen corridor powered by 6,000-lumen projectors dynamically reconstructs six historical measurement scenarios in ancient Taizhou, creating immersive recreations of electricity usage across seven historical periods. “Every meter dial tells a story of technological revolution,” remarked student Zhang Xiaomeng during an interactive disassembly session.

“This transcends mere device iteration. It vividly chronicles China’s power industry transformation from follower to global leader,” explained museum docents. Since its inauguration on May 18, 2022, the facility has hosted 12,000 visitors. Leveraging State Grid’s metrological expertise, it has conducted over 100 branded scientific events and earned recognition as Jiangsu Provincial Science Education Base, praised by experts for “capturing the essence of industrial civilization within compact spaces.”

Aligned with State Grid Jiangsu’s 2025 “Dian Nuan Liu” Brand Month, Taizhou Power Supply Company recently launched public “Power Exploration Journeys” and a digital cloud exhibition.
