On May 16th, service personnel from the State Grid Xuchang Power Supply Company visited the greenhouse watermelon planting area in Shangzhuang Village to conduct safety inspections on electricity usage. They proactively inquired about needs and provided services, ensuring a sufficient power supply for the development of rural characteristic industries.

Shangzhuang Village, Zhanbei Township, Xiangcheng County, Xuchang City, Henan Province, is known as the “First Watermelon Village in Central China”. Currently, it has more than 700 watermelon greenhouses, covering an area of over 1,100 mu, with more than 130 farming households. Empowered by electricity, the watermelon industry here has undergone a remarkable transformation. Relying on smart greenhouse technology, Shangzhuang Village has cultivated watermelons, which are typically seen in midsummer, into a “hot commodity” available in early summer. Upon its initial release, pre-orders reached over 100 tons.

In recent years, the local area has deeply tapped into the potential of the agricultural industry and ecological resources, vigorously developing characteristic agriculture such as study and picking tours, and ecological leisure tours, promoting the rapid development of the rural economy. To safeguard the development of the watermelon industry, the State Grid Xuchang Power Supply Company has utilized technologies such as drones and infrared temperature measurement to strengthen the inspection of line equipment in the jurisdiction, ensuring the safety and stability of electricity throughout the entire process of watermelon growth. In addition, the company’s power supply service personnel regularly visit, actively providing services to growers, carefully inspecting the safety hazards of the lines and electrical equipment in watermelon greenhouses, and understanding the electricity needs of melon farmers in detail, comprehensively guarding the ‘money bags’ of melon farmers.
