State Grid Nanyang Power Supply Company: Technology Aids in Safeguarding Power Grid Security
“A Kongming lantern has been spotted hanging from the conductor between Tower 06 and Tower 07 of the 110kV Dengyue Line in Dengzhou City, Nanyang! Immediate removal is required!” On the morning of April 20th, the Transmission Operation and Maintenance Team of the State Grid Nanyang Power Supply Company received a report regarding foreign object removal.
Currently, it is a crucial period for spring plowing and planting. If foreign objects cause inter-phase discharge leading to tripping, it will seriously affect power supply reliability. Therefore, upon receiving the report, the State Grid Nanyang Power Supply Company immediately organized a consultation with the Transmission Operation and Maintenance Team. After analysis and assessment, it was decided to use a remote laser cannon to remove the foreign object while the line remained energized.
On the afternoon of April 20th, the State Grid Nanyang Power Supply Company organized personnel from the Transmission Operation and Maintenance Team to urgently rush to the site. They conducted a comprehensive and detailed inspection of the foreign object defect on the conductor. Subsequently, after ensuring environmental safety and the availability of all necessary conditions at the site, they systematically deployed the laser cannon. Twenty minutes later, with the operator’s precise control of the laser cannon, the foreign object on the conductor was successfully removed.
According to on-site staff, in the past, when such airborne hazards were discovered, it was necessary to wait for the line to be de-energized, and the hazard was eliminated by manually climbing the tower and walking along the line. With the introduction of the laser remote foreign object removal device, foreign objects can be remotely fused and safety hazards can be addressed in just a few minutes, reducing the risk to personnel and greatly improving the efficiency of transmission operation and maintenance work.
While doing a good job in eliminating line defects, the State Grid Nanyang Power Supply Company also vigorously promotes drone inspections. Compared with traditional manual inspections, drone inspections have obvious advantages. Drones are not affected by terrain or viewing angles and can perform close-range, 360-degree, unobstructed inspections of line equipment. Moreover, after implementing autonomous intelligent drone inspections, the efficiency of line equipment inspection and maintenance has increased by 3 to 4 times.
Next, the State Grid Nanyang Power Supply Company will strengthen the promotion and application of new equipment and new technologies, and make full use of advanced technical means to timely detect and eliminate various safety hazards, providing a solid guarantee for the safe and stable operation of the power grid.
