Electric Boost: Xuchang Farmers Breed Prosperity with Power-Driven Cattle
At dawn on February 21st, Wang Zhipeng and his team from Fenchen Power Supply Station of State Grid Xuchang Power Supply Company arrived at Andy Dairy Co., Ltd., a thriving dairy operation located in Fangzhuang Village, Fenchen Township, Xiangcheng County, Xuchang City, Henan Province. Their mission was to inspect vital electrical equipment within the calf barns, including heaters and humidifiers, which are crucial for maintaining optimal conditions. The team meticulously identified and swiftly addressed potential hazards to ensure a safe and reliable power supply for the dairy farm.
The farm manager explained that the facility currently houses over 60 calves, thriving in a carefully controlled environment maintained at 15°C to 20°C with approximately 60% humidity. Due to recent unpredictable temperature fluctuations, maintaining these precise conditions relies heavily on electric heating systems.
Founded in May 2020, Andy Dairy initially focused on dairy cow breeding, pasture cultivation, and fresh milk sales. Recognizing the farm’s potential as a key client, State Grid Xuchang Power Supply Company established a dedicated ‘one-on-one’ support program. From the outset, Wang Zhipeng was assigned as the dedicated account manager, providing personalized assistance to the burgeoning dairy operation. He collaborated closely with Andy Dairy to accurately assess their power demands and develop a customized grid connection plan tailored to their specific needs and the local grid capacity. This support also included facilitating the streamlined ‘Three Saves’ application process – saving the farm time, effort, and money – and overseeing the installation of a new 400 kVA transformer and over 200 meters of insulated low-voltage power lines, ensuring reliable and uninterrupted electricity supply essential for the farm’s successful launch.
In 2024, leveraging 12.07 million yuan in rural revitalization funding, Andy Dairy constructed a low-temperature sterilization and packaging workshop and supporting equipment, and installed four advanced dairy production lines. Recognizing the farm’s increased power demands resulting from this expansion, State Grid Xuchang Power Supply Company, through its rural electrification initiative, promptly augmented the farm’s capacity by installing an additional 400 kVA transformer.
Reliable power and high-quality services have effectively supported the further extension and development of Andy Dairy’s industrial chain. Known locally as ‘俺滴牛’ (pronounced as Ān dí niú in Chinese), a playful name that means ‘My Cow’ in English, it has transformed into a flagship agricultural enterprise, integrating dairy cow breeding, pasture cultivation, and dairy product processing and sales.
