Power Company Crew Turns Good Samaritans, Rescuing Villager and His Tricycle
On Monday, February 17th, Hong Yafeng, a lineman with State Grid Henan Shangqiu Yongcheng Power Supply Company, was driving his company’s yellow pickup truck down a rural lane near Zhuzhuang Village, Xuehu Township. He and his team were heading to a high-loss transformer site for inspection and repairs.
Suddenly, they came across an overturned electric tricycle in a roadside ditch. Seeing no one around, Hong figured the vehicle was stuck fast and decided to wait a bit to see if the owner showed up; he intended to offer a hand pulling it out.
Shortly after, two older men in their seventies arrived on electric scooters, carrying shovels and rope. “I raise rabbits,” one of the men explained, his voice filled with urgency. “I went to the market early this morning to sell them, but had no luck. It was past noon when my family called, saying lunch was ready and to hurry home for dumplings. I was rushing and drove right into the ditch!”
During the conversation, Hong learned that the man was the village doctor of Zhuzhuang. “Mr. Zhu,” Hong offered a solution, “your vehicle is heavy, the ditch is steep, and the soil is loose. We probably won’t be able to pull it out by hand. Let’s use our pickup truck.” Mr. Zhu was grateful for the offer.
Hong took the rope from Mr. Zhu, attaching one end to the pickup and the other to the tricycle. One person steered the truck while the others righted the overturned tricycle in the ditch. After some effort, they successfully pulled the tricycle back onto the road. Mr. Zhu expressed his relief, noting that he was uninjured, and exclaimed that the situation would have been much worse had the ditch been full of water.
“We’ve made lunch, dumplings! You must come to my home and eat with us, please!” Mr. Zhu repeatedly invited the power company employees to his home as a gesture of gratitude, but they politely declined.
After a brief stop, the yellow pickup truck continued its journey along the road, heading towards the hopeful fields in the countryside. ( By Ding Darui)
