State Grid Xuchang Power Supply Company Uplift: Post-Holiday Training Shift, Safer Operations Adrift
“Before climbing, always check the pole’s surface for damage, ensure the fixtures are securely fastened, and confirm the pole’s stability.” On February 11th, at the State Grid Xuchang Power Supply Company’s training facility, veteran technician Wang Chen from Dazhou Power Supply Office demonstrated safe pole-climbing procedures while explaining them to his junior colleague, Fan Xiaoshuai.
To ensure a safe return to work after the Spring Festival holiday, the company capitalized on the current project slowdown to provide comprehensive safety and operational skills training for all employees. The initiative focused on theoretical knowledge, skills development, and practical application and was based on the principles of thorough learning, practical training, and rigorous assessment. The aim was to educate all staff to prioritize safety throughout the year, effectively tightening the “safety valve,” the company’s core commitment.
This training program included a combination of theoretical and practical sessions and mentorship programs to develop tangible, practical skills. Participants watched safety warning videos, and each department analyzed and identified potential risks based on their job roles. They dissected accident case studies to learn from past incidents, practiced responses to typical violation scenarios and implemented control measures, reviewed work permit procedures, and engaged in on-site operational exercises to improve the team’s capabilities continuously. Through listening, observing, analyzing, and discussing, the program aimed to ensure that all departments maintain optimal preparedness, achieving a dual improvement in both safety awareness and professional competence across the board.
Looking ahead to 2025, the company used this training as a foundation for further improvements, encouraging frontline employees to take greater responsibility for their own safety training and fostering a shift from “required learning” to “voluntary learning.” Key priorities included implementing the “four key controls” on-site–personnel management, team supervision, work leader development, and violation management–thereby preemptively breaking the accident chain, strengthening planning with detailed project-specific construction plans, and ensuring the rigorous implementation of safety measures. The company firmly established the principle of “70% preparation, 30% execution,” strengthened risk prediction and management to minimize project disruptions caused by uncontrollable factors. Enhanced inter-departmental communication improved pre-project efficiency, coordinating construction crews, material supplies, and outage scheduling. Through these multifaceted efforts, the company will ensure key projects are energized and commissioned on schedule while simultaneously reinforcing its primary responsibility for safety management, steadily improving safety performance, and providing comprehensive safety throughout the year.
