Nanyang, Henan: Early Measures to Secure Power Supply for Spring Irrigation
“The peak season for spring ploughing and irrigation is just around the corner. We’ve proactively conducted comprehensive inspections of agricultural pumping stations, which have been offline all winter, to ensure the equipment operates safely and reliably and to guarantee a dependable power supply for spring ploughing and irrigation,” stated Wang Yu, Deputy Director of the Houji Power Supply Center of State Grid Zhenping County Power Supply Company, in Houji Town, Zhenping County, Nanyang City, Henan Province, on February 5th.
As the saying goes, “The whole year’s work depends on a good start in spring.” With the gradual warming of temperatures after the Beginning of Spring (Lichun), agricultural activities like spring ploughing and irrigation are about to commence. To guarantee a safe and reliable power supply for agricultural production, State Grid Zhenping County Power Supply Company has taken early action to secure power for spring irrigation. They’ve formulated the “2025 Spring Farming and Irrigation Power Supply Guarantee Plan,” implementing an equipment ownership system. Special inspections and infrared temperature measurements have been conducted at 11 key agricultural substations, with adjustments made to overloaded equipment as needed. Prioritized inspections have been carried out on power supply areas and lines related to agricultural production, addressing issues such as tree obstructions and floating debris that could impact the safe operation of power facilities, thus enhancing the reliability of the power supply for spring farming. Thorough checks have also been conducted on power poles, guy wires, related lines, and the proper placement of safety warning signs in the fields to ensure the “dual safety” of both large agricultural machinery and power grid equipment. Meanwhile, the disciplinary inspection department of State Grid Zhenping County Power Supply Company has closely supervised and inspected the implementation of the spring farming and irrigation power supply guarantee plan at all power supply stations, conducting evaluations and reinforcing accountability to ensure the stable operation of the power grid and a reliable power supply during the spring farming season.
“We’ve streamlined the process for spring irrigation power services through convenient online, door-to-door, and nearby service options, enabling quick connections and early access to electricity,” explained Shen Changbo, Head of the Business Expansion Team at State Grid Zhenping County Power Supply Company. Given the cyclical and temporary increase in electricity demand during spring farming preparations, the company has also established a “green channel” for spring irrigation power supply. For agricultural power expansion projects and power restoration requests related to pumping stations, public water pumps, and agricultural machinery, they’ve optimized the application process and strictly adhered to committed timelines for key steps such as responding to power supply plan approval and meter installations, allowing farmers to efficiently handle various business matters right in their fields.
Furthermore, staff at local power supply stations have utilized their professional expertise to provide extended services, focusing on safety inspections of electrical equipment within agricultural greenhouses, including motors, well pumps, and electric farm machinery. They have also provided on-site guidance to users to address any identified electrical hazards, preventing the operation of faulty equipment.
Currently, State Grid Zhenping County Power Supply Company has conducted 460 on-site service visits, helping farmers eliminate 118 potential electrical hazards. It will continue to provide follow-up services throughout the spring farming season to ensure a stable and reliable power supply for agricultural production.(By Fran)
