State Grid Shangqiu Power Supply Company Brightens Homes and Hearts for War Veterans

With the winter solstice approaching, on 11th December, State Grid Shangqiu Power Company partnered with the Yongcheng People’s Armed Forces Department, launching the “Power Brings Light” initiative to extend care and warmth to aging veterans of the Anti-Japanese War. At the event, power service personnel visited the home of Qiao Zhongling, a veteran of the Huaihai Campaign, to conduct electrical safety checks and ensure his electricity needs were met for the winter.

Mr. Qiao, now in his nineties, vividly recalled every detail of his participation in the Huaihai Campaign. His home currently had outdated wiring and worn-out switches, posing potential safety hazards. State Grid technicians meticulously inspected the circuit, replaced aging wires and damaged switches, and installed energy-efficient lighting to ensure a safe and reliable electrical environment for Mr. Qiao.

Representatives from the Yongcheng People’s Armed Forces Department provided Mr. Qiao with essential supplies like rice, flour, and oil and listened attentively to his revolutionary stories. “Back then, we weren’t afraid to shed blood and sacrifice to protect our homes and country,” Mr. Qiao recounted. “Seeing everyone so concerned about us now is truly touching.”

“Revolutionary veterans have made tremendous contributions to the cause of national liberation; they are our heroes. Today’s event is not only about checking electrical hazards for the veterans and improving their living environment but also about expressing our respect and gratitude. As power employees, we will always remember the service motto of ‘power for the people’ and serve our customers with heart and soul,” said Li Hui, an employee of State Grid Shangqiu Power Supply Company, emotionally. The power employees also presented Qiao Zhongling with red lanterns symbolizing joy and warmth, which also lit his path home and warmed his heart. State Grid Shangqiu plans to extend this initiative to all veteran households throughout the city, providing electrical safety education, line maintenance, and holiday greetings. They will also address any electricity-related questions the veterans may have.

“Today, not only has my home been illuminated, but my heart has been warmed,” Mr. Qiao expressed gratefully. “The fact that these power workers remember us veterans shows that we haven’t been forgotten.” The “Power Brings Light” initiative is one of the series of activities by State Grid Shangqiu Power Supply Company to honor revolutionary heroes before the Spring Festival. The plan aims to reach all veterans of revolutionary wars within the city, ensuring their electrical safety, optimizing their electricity facilities, and sending holiday greetings and warmth.

Through this event, not only has the deep affection for the veterans been demonstrated through concrete actions, but warmth and light have also been brought to every veteran’s home, adding a special touch of comfort and brightness during the cold winter months.
