Guarding the ‘Vegetable Basket’ to Boost Production and Yields
With the onset of winter, State Grid Kuitun Power Supply Company is stepping forward to support the community’s vital “vegetable basket” during the colder months. On 28th November, the company initiated visits to greenhouse farmers, offering “safety clinics” to ensure a secure power supply for fruit and vegetable growers throughout the winter season.
In recent years, the proliferation of vegetable greenhouses has made ensuring safe electricity use both challenging and prior. Staff from the Kuitun Company have ventured into these greenhouses to assist farmers in fine-tuning their control systems, ensuring consistent temperatures inside and the proper functioning of irrigation equipment. They have inspected electrical devices such as lighting, heating, pumping, sprinkling, and roller shading systems, helped replace damaged and aging wiring, circuit breakers, and switches, and eliminated potential electrical hazards, providing farmers with greater peace of mind and confidence when using electricity.
While ensuring the safety of electrical facilities, the power workers have also taken on the responsibility of educating the growers about safe electricity use. They have actively promoted electricity policies and regulations, equipping growers with a comprehensive understanding of the norms and requirements for electricity use. Through detailed explanations of key considerations for greenhouse temperature control and irrigation electricity use, and using relatable examples and easy-to-understand language, they guide farmers on how to use electricity safely and effectively, significantly raising their awareness of electrical safety.
“In the past, we were clueless about handling electricity, and the electricity meter box was dilapidated, with tangled wiring. We were especially afraid to use them in winter. Now, with the power department’s guidance on how to properly wire, we are truly grateful!” exclaimed an excited greenhouse farmer, Li Baicai. Before leaving, the Kuitun Company staff distributed safety electricity use flyers and reminded the farmers of the precautions to take when using electricity.
Moving forward, the Kuitun Company plans to intensify its inspections of electricity lines and equipment for agricultural enterprises. By employing various “safety clinic” approaches, including on-site visits and telephone consultations, they aim to maintain a real-time understanding of the electricity usage and needs of agricultural businesses. This commitment will ensure sufficient power provision for vegetable cultivation, ultimately safeguarding increased production and yields for the “vegetable basket”. (By Lyu Wenxiang)
