State Grid Nanyang: Tightening Fire Safety Precautions for Enhanced Prevention
“Be sure to check if fire extinguishers are depressurised or expired…” On 5th November, State Grid Nanyang Power Supply Company dispatched teams to perform extensive checks and maintenance on fire safety equipment at the 220kV Dengzhou Substation, effectively eliminating fire hazards and preventing potential incidents.
In a continued effort to eliminate fire hazards, minimise the risk of fire incidents, and improve emergency response capabilities, State Grid Nanyang has introduced the “Three Ones” fire safety programme. This initiative includes comprehensive hazard assessments, engaging fire safety briefings, and practical emergency drills designed to reinforce employees’ fire safety awareness and uphold a steadfast safety baseline.
Fortifying fire safety through detailed inspections: State State Grid Nanyang Power Supply Company invited its personnel to conduct meticulous examinations of fire safety equipment, ensuring all systems are complete and functional, and that safety exits are always accessible. This thorough approach entails maintaining updated records and tailored plans for each identified hazard, with prompt updates to fire safety logs. Detailed checks of fire sandpits, sprinkler systems, and alarm systems are complemented by broader reviews of security, emergency lighting, and surveillance systems within substations to confirm full operational status and certification.
Embedding safety awareness through interactive fire safety briefings: To improve employees’ fire safety competencies, State Grid Nanyang organised a series of engaging fire safety briefings. By incorporating video demonstrations, theoretical insights, and case study analyses, experts from the Dengzhou Fire Brigade covered crucial topics including fire safety legislation and regulations, prevention tips, fire and electricity management, and the practical operation of fire safety equipment. These efforts are designed to ingrain essential safety practices deeply and heighten fire safety awareness among employees.
Enhancing emergency response through practical drills: to advance employees’ emergency response skills and assess the effectiveness of fire safety education, State Grid Nanyang conducted hands-on fire safety drills. These exercises included initial fire suppression, emergency evacuation, and the correct use and maintenance of fire safety equipment. Participants practised the “pull, aim, squeeze, sweep” (PASS) technique for extinguishers, and received hands-on training with fire hoses and other critical handling skills, sharpening their emergency preparedness and fire prevention capabilities.
Moving forward, State Grid Nanyang is committed to the principle of “prevention first, combining prevention with extinguishing,” by enhancing fire safety management, refining emergency plans, and maintaining a vigilant stance on fire safety practices. This enduring dedication ensures a consistently high standard of fire safety management. (By Xu Ning & Wang Yagang)
