“中国，到底是什么样”？

最近，一名即将赴中国留学的美国网友在美版知乎Quora上提出了这个问题，对此，不少与中国交集颇深网友的回答，可谓真实又发人深省：

I was in China for the past few days and had a great experience..it was my first time there and Same with Russia. People saying: ‘Oh, I’ve been to Russia, in Moscow’Nope. Moscow is not Russia. Go into rural areas, or at least far from Moscow.

我在中国呆了几天，非常美妙.那是我第一次到中国这个国家，与俄罗斯一样。人们说:“哦，我去过俄罗斯，在莫斯科。”不。莫斯科不是俄罗斯。要想了解俄罗斯，请去农村地区，或者至少远离莫斯科.

Moscow is all the rage for tourists, but I’ve always thought that there are all sorts of things that could be seen as interesting in my hometown. For me, at least.

But believe me, China won’t make you feel any discomfort. It’s suitable for the whole world!

many modern  cities lack vibrant nightlife in the city and often these buildings represent a facade. When living in Beijing, some of my best moments were in the hutongs!

There seems to be some charm in China’s cities, where there are no boring hip-hoppers and gangs, but only friendly and safe prosperity!

Just one hour drive from Shanghai are all villages. Don’t judge the book by its cover.

Earlier last year, when I first came to China, I was shocked by what I saw: there was a big gap between the image of China in our news!

Although, China is just the same like everywhere else on earth. It is a mixture of rich and poor, of modern and old, and of developed and undeveloped!

However, China’s upper and lower limits are far higher than we expected.

For anyone visiting Guangzhou. Take a trip to the new residential areas in Huadu. You will see many uniquely shaped apartment buildings (Huadu central city area)..

The reason is, the farmers who sold the land to the government for development, refused to move, and their very old old houses, still remain amongst these towers. That’s right, not even the government could force these people out of their homes, in spite of their new found wealth.

I am in Shenzhen every year and I always find something new or interesting… best advise I can give anyone going to Shenzhen is to explore the small streets, I promise you will find something interesting every time.

I lived in SZ from 2014 until 2016 when I got crazed and desperate from all the betrayal which ultimately ruined my health. (I lived back home for two years - could not call it home anymore - I was looking at it trough a different lens)…

so people make huge oversight by forgetting that they have spent a lot of time creating their cozy environment at home by filtering out people trough choices and opportunities, and that it requires much patience and understanding to be able to cultivate the friendly environment in China. So, yeah, perspective plays a massive role in how you think about this place.

客居他乡的人，要花长的时间，才能忘掉以前的生活环境，重新适应新的生活.因此，要在中国建立适合自己的生活环境，是非常需要耐心的.是的，对一个新的地方（城市），你如何看待它，这非常重要.

My dad taught asian history so i have always been intered in china. I cant visit the country ，

However, I am full of love for this country: they have the most perfect history and culture. Although they have fallen into temporary decline in the past two hundred years, today’s development has shown their greatness covered by dust!

Before going to China , In my own opinion I already knew more about China than probably 99% of Americans, I’d studied the history of the Chinese dynasties, the teachings of Confucius, watched the movies of Jet Li (referring to the early ones especially) and generally knew way more about international history than your average American, hell,

I even worked at a Chinese restaurant for 2 years and talked with the Chinese cooks, some from the north, some from the south, and they remarked on how I wasn’t like other Americans in that I actually understood much more than the little sphere that most Americans live in.

But when I first set foot in this “familiar” country, everything here left me at a loss: I found that China in my heart is so different from the real China!

Fortunately, China has not disappointed me - I think the real China is more satisfying than the stubborn American view, so I chose to stay in China. So for the Americans who want to know about China, I have a suggestion: Go out boldly and not just rely on one-sided imagination!

I agree; if you can, you owe it to yourself to really push your own comfort zone. Not only will it give you a much better perspective on your own life, but you’ll make memories, and in some cases friends, that you’ll have forever.

I really enjoyed an urban village in China that was actually below a modern one.Yup It had a descending stairway.

Two years ago I accompanied my wife to Wuhan where she was a presenter at an academic conference. At one point we went on a sponsored bus and walking tour of the host University.

I’ve visited china before. For culture I believe china is best place in the world to go in my opinion

We need to understand the fact that when we were not Indo-European, the Chinese already existed.

Manners cannot make someone civilized, if he isn’t civilized inside. Chinese civilization is highly complex，after the first real understanding of Chinese civilization, I feel only a kind of inner powerlessness and inferiority - Chinese civilization is terrible!

如果一个人的内在不是文明的，即使礼仪也不能让其文明，中华文明是高度复杂的，当第一次真正了解中华文明之后，我感觉到的只有一种发自内心的无力和自卑——中华文明太可畏了！

The simplest example is that for the description of the same thing, there are usually no more than five expressions in English, but in Chinese, we can easily find 20 expressions!

最简单的例子是，对于同一事物的描述，英语中通常不超过五个表达式，但在汉语中，我们可以很容易地找到20个表达式！

Of course, what is more surprising is that when describing a certain thing, the Chinese can even make everyone understand the object they describe without mentioning the thing itself.

当然，更令人惊讶的是，中国人在描述某件事情时，甚至可以让每个人都理解他们所描述的对象，而不必提及事物本身。

Perhaps I exaggerate too much, but in my opinion, every capital of China’s Tang and Song poems is enough to win the Nobel Prize for Literature. By contrast, Shakespeare is so vulgar!

也许我太夸张了，但在我看来，中国唐宋诗歌的每一个首都足以获得诺贝尔文学奖。相反，莎士比亚是如此粗俗！

One of the reasons for their prosperity is that China is far away from the war environment.

But look at our president: almost every president is eager to start a war, and then turn money into bombs on Syrian children, and turn tens of thousands of young Americans into graves!

15、BIGFOOOOOT

Of all places, I still love to go to the crappy 烧烤店 around the corner and talk to drunk Chinese workers every evening when I’m in China. I love China for those experiences. 

在所有的地方中,我最喜欢去的地方是那些角落里的烧烤店，在中国是，我每天晚上都喜欢去那里，跟喝醉了的中国工人聊天.我爱中国的这些经历。

But it will vanish just as my BBQ shop has evolved from a three wheel motorcycle with a coal grill on the back to a shop when the government prohibited outside sale in the residential area. Now I have to sit inside and it’s already not the same. And it will become less and less like that. More shiny and more generic. Until it doesn’t differ from any other country in the world. 

但它将消失，就像我经常光顾的烧烤摊，已经从一个后面有一个煤烤架的三轮摩托车变成了不对外售卖居民区.现在我不得不坐在里面，再也没有那种街头烧烤的感觉了.现在，这里变得越来越闪亮摩登，也越来越没个性了，最后它会变得和世界上任何其他国家没有任何区别.

不可否认，对于外国网友“BIGFOOOOOT”的叹息，老铁在陷入回忆之际，也会不由得表示惋惜。

但是，惋惜虽然却并不后悔！

道理很简单：对于外国人而言，诸如“街角烧烤店”的落后，虽然充满了异域的猎奇，但是对于生活在那里的中国人而言，却意味着生活的贫苦。

因此在老铁看来，中国虽然追求个性，但是这并不是要以“保持落后”为代价来换取！

在国际电力领域，有一个出名的段子，说美国电网系统想要搞研发，还要专门学中文去研究中国国际电网标准。从这就能看出，这家霸占全球专利排行榜前三名的企业到底有多强。然而很少有人知道，中国电网在此之前也曾经历过像芯片一样被卡脖子的屈辱历史，关注铁血军事，回复“电网”，收看细节。

铁血军事，不打官腔，态度鲜明，客观理性。在这里，了解大国的权谋斗争；在这里，见识武器真正的威力；在这里，做一个真正的爱国者
