还有些作家会将一切打包，一气呵成。我最喜欢的例子是布莱恩·道尔（Brian Doyle）写的关于他哥哥开车的文章《他最后的游戏》（His Last Game）：

从标点来看，我们大多数人处于这两个极端的中间地带。我们既不是断断续续的，也不是一气呵成的。相反，我们通过标点符号的使用进行分组和强调特定信息，来为读者建立舒服的阅读速度。在我们编辑自己的作品时，从初稿到终稿就能看出标点上的小小改动汇集到一起会产生很大的效果。

我喜欢第二版。首先，将”mistakes, misspeaking, misleading and misbehaving”全都放在一起，“冒号”将以上这些认为是奥普拉和弗雷的作为。第二，比较更加集中：” we are like Orpah and James Frey” 因为我们都会犯错误。在第一段中也是，”lying, cheating, stealing, killing and historic crimes”都在同一句里。在第二段中，最严重的过错与不严重的过错分开，标点符号表明了过错的严重性。

下面是另一个不太复杂的标点符号例子：

它们的区别仅仅是第一句用的分号，第二句用的句号。有什么不同呢？第一个可以被理解为将两个分句的联系变得更紧密，或许默默地起到however一词的意思。第二个句子将两句话视为独立的，并且更加强调后面一句话。当你修改或者编写你的作品时，想想标点符号为段落和句子的节奏提供的选择。

但是不要滥用。有关著名散文家约瑟夫·康拉德（Joseph Conrad）的一个故事是这样的：当康拉德结束了一早的写作走出书房，他的妻子问他做了什么。他说：“我去掉了一个逗号。”这个故事很可能是杜撰的，或者至少我希望是这样的。
